- He had a shrine to The Flush Divine in their bathroom.
- The Finch's accidentally acknowledged (or called forward) and then strengthened a God of Hunger in the form of a dead patch of earth in their fields, which then grew hungrily. They called it The Hollow.
- Harold came up with a way to keep The Hollow at bay by "feeding" it rabbits. He kept hundreds of them in the basement of a cabin on the edge of the Hollow's influence, where they died slowly and painfully from hunger, eventually resorting to cannibalism, before they were replaced.
- When trespassers wandered into their field, ignoring the "Keep Out" signs and into the Hollow's domain, all but one died from sudden, incapacitating starvation, After this event, the Finch's noticed the Hollow's area of influence receded, as if it was satiated. Mr Finch suggested taking down the warning signs and allowing other unwitting travellers to feed the Hollow, but Harold found the idea repugnant, and left him.[1]
